LowCostFinder exists to make it easier to find free and low-cost help with the everyday costs of living. When money is tight, the hardest part is often not qualifying for help but knowing that it exists, what it is called and where to apply. We organize that information into plain-language guides and a searchable directory so you can get to the right official source quickly.
What we cover
- Food assistance: SNAP, WIC, food banks, school meals and senior meals.
- Utility assistance: help paying energy bills, weatherization and ways to use less.
- Internet and phone: Lifeline and low-cost provider plans.
- Transportation: reduced fares, medical rides and car-cost savings.
- Housing: vouchers, affordable apartments, eviction help and housing counseling.
- Healthcare: community health centers, coverage options and prescription savings.
- Community services: 211, legal aid, free tax help and everyday ways to save.
What we are, and what we are not
LowCostFinder is an independent information website. We are not a government agency, we do not administer or approve any benefit, and we cannot check the status of an application. We never ask for your Social Security number, bank details or payment to “unlock” help. Everything we link to is free to use, and applying for public benefits never costs money.
How we work
Each guide is built from official sources such as federal and state agencies and established nonprofits. We explain the basics in plain language, link to the source so you can verify the details, and note where rules differ by state. Read our Editorial Policy for how we research, update and correct our content.
How the site is funded
The site does not currently display advertising. In future, it may be supported by advertising, including ads served by Google AdSense, if approved. Advertising never influences what we write, and we do not accept payment to feature a program or organization. You can read more in our Disclaimer and Privacy Policy.
Help us keep this accurate
Programs change, and local details matter. If you find an outdated link, a mistake, or a resource we should add, please contact us. Corrections are reviewed and applied as quickly as we can verify them.
How content is researched and reviewed: The Low-Cost Finder Editorial Team prepares content from official agency and established nonprofit sources, checks it against those sources, and explains it in plain language.
